Why we do the things we do...

The Bible...

The Bible is our standard.  As the divinely inspired and inerrant Word of God, it is the plumb line for all that we understand about the nature of the world, the need of humanity and the love and holiness of God.  We interpret all of life through the Bible as His Holy Spirit grants us understanding of what He is saying through it.

Our ministry is therefore founded on what He says through His Bible.  Our teachings on salvation (forgiveness of God and His gift of relationship with Himself) are based on what the Bible says.  Our understanding of family and social responsibility, and our commitment to actively and practically share the good news of Jesus Christ (the Gospel) with our community and the world are all shaped by what He says through His Bible.

God...

We want the world to know that there is a loving, personal God at work in the world today!  There is no one like Him:  He is above all other beings and has absolute power and authority to rule over His creation!  He is perfectly holy in Who He is and in all that He does!

God is one in essence, in purpose and in mission.  He presents Himself in three forms:  the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Each is intricately connected to the others and each complements the activity and work of the whole.

Humanity...

We acknowledge that humanity, on the other hand, has turned away from God's loving guidance and chosen to pursue its own way (this is called "sin"), choosing substitutes and counterfeits to God.  We believe that the evidence of this in our world is violence, selfishness, hate and despair as people's trust in themselves, in other people, in causes or in other "gods" prove unfounded and bankrupt.

Jesus Christ...

We have come to know that God has not forsaken us and has chosen to reveal Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ:  The incarnation is literally God becoming man,  taking on all the characteristics of man (human frailty, human sorrow, and human limitations) except that He did not sin...

In the days of His earthly ministry, Jesus taught, healed and lived His life in perfect relationship with God the Father through the person of the Holy Spirit (the third person in the trinity of God; the Holy Spirit exerts the influence of God's power and nature in the world).

The Crucifixion...

Jesus was rejected by those He came to bring back to God, suffered from their abuse (physical and emotional) and willingly assented to their executing Him on a wooden cross.  His death, a perfect sacrifice (since He had never committed sin), therefore perfectly covers the requirement for God's forgiveness of the sins of men and women everywhere for all time.

The Resurrection...

We rejoice in that after Jesus' body had lain in a grave for three days, the power of God returned His physical body to life, only now and forever glorified - set free from the limitations of our physical bodies and never to die again.

The Gospel...

We share this good news, that the way for any man, woman, boy or girl to personally experience the forgiveness of God is to personally place their complete trust - their faith - in Jesus.  Our accomplishments, our best offerings and even our greatest sacrifices fall so short of what is necessary to satisfy the justice of holy God - there is nothing that anyone can do or give that will "make up" for his or her sin.

Only faith in Jesus Christ can remove the fact of sin in our lives.

Family...

The family is a priority to God and each personís inclusion in it is an act of grace on Godís part to provide for the needs of his or her family members.

God's will for the family (the first human institution created by God [Genesis 2:18-24; 4:1-2, 25-26]) is that it be whole and healthy.

Marriage, therefore, is of great worth and priority in the eyes of God.  A permanent relationship between one man and one woman, it is to be regarded as a sacred union in which the wife honors her husband and the husband loves his wife as Jesus has loved His church.  Additionally, Godís desire is that the family raise up Godly offspring.  Family life (marriage and child-raising) are consequently of tremendous importance to the ministry of our church.
